Rugby Betting – Super Rugby Round 2 Tips & Previews

Sunwolves vs Rebels

In the first match of Saturday’s Super Rugby round 4 fixture features competitive newcomers, the Sunwolves who will take on an ever-improving Rebels team in Tokyo.

Sunwolves

Predicting matches against the Sunwolves are always difficult since there is no real-time statistics available, especially against a team they have never played the Rebels in this case.

The Sunwolves although losing both of their Super Rugby matches thus far has been enormously challenging to opposition teams, who had to dig deep for their win, just ask the Cheetahs.

How much the Sunwolves 1-point loss against the Cheetahs last week, a game they should have won, would have affected team morale remain to be seen.

On attack the Sunwolves have generally been good, playing good running rugby which often creates problems for defensive lines.

With that being said as many problems as the Wolves cause opposition teams defence on attack, they (the Sunwolves) have some major problems on defence. In the 20 matches, the Sunwolves have played thus far they have missed on average a whopping 25-tackles per game, or rather 20% of all their tackles against the Cheetahs & Lions respectively.

Another problem area for the Sunwolves to fix, should they want to beat the Rebels on Saturday is their lineout. The Sunwolves currently only has a 70% lineout success rate, losing 30% of all their lineouts. However, all other set pieces have been solid especially scrums which would certainly please their forwards coach.

Rebels

The Rebels, who have improved a lot over the past several seasons have been especially good in 2016 thus far. Having won 2 games against the Force and Reds respectively while losing against the Bulls in the Highveld, which is nothing to be ashamed about since it is one of the most difficult places in the world to win a rugby match.

The Rebels have themselves been playing some good attacking rugby and the Sunwolves and Rebels are two very similar teams in terms of their strengths and weaknesses.

The Rebels are averaging almost 3 tries per game while missing approximately 18% of their tackles. Their Scrum and lineout have been average but by no means brilliant.

Round 4 Super Rugby Predictions Rebels vs Sunwolves.

While the Sunwolves are an excellent team we will stick to the familiar and go with the Rebels in this game, as we have mentioned in numerous of our super rugby previews we belief, as good and competitive as the Sunwolves are, they lack the experience for us to trust them with our money. Rebels by 6+ points

What the Bookmakers Are Saying

Crusaders vs Southern Kings

In what is widely regarded as the most one-sided match of Super Rugby round 4, the liquidated franchise (i.e. bankrupt franchise bailed out by South African Rugby Football Union) will take on, one of the best sides in the Super Rugby tournament, the Crusaders, at home in Christchurch!
Crusaders

We won’t waste time going into too much detail about this one since we all know who will be the winner in this one, it is just a question of by how much the Crusaders will win against the Kings.

The Kings got beaten by 34-points at Nelson Mandela bay stadium Port Elizabeth (the Kings Home stadium) so can you imagine what the result will be against the Crusaders? Crusaders by 40+, 50+ is 60+ possible?

The Crusaders, not surprisingly and smartly we may add, have rested several key players for this match including talismanic number-8 Kieran Read.

Round 4 Super Rugby Prediction Crusaders vs Kings.

Due to the rest of several key players and the Crusaders electing not to take the build up to the game too seriously don’t expect a complete and total blowout, but also don’t expect a close match. Crusaders by 35+

What the Bookmakers Are Saying

We got this one spot on with worldwide bookmaker MarathonBet offering odds of @1.01 if you wish to bet on a straight win on the Crusaders(no value there)

Those wanting to part with their money can bet on the Southern Kings at a whopping @17.00 for s straight win.

The only real value bet for this match is the handicap which has been set at +/- 34-points

Rugby Betting’s recommended bet Crusaders vs Southern Kings:

Since there is no value for betting straight up on either team, we recommend you make a bet on the Crusaders at -34-points (jump on it since we are very confident they will cover)

Perhaps another good bet can be found in the side markets. It Is no secret Rugby Betting are fans of small odds, large bets. Thus, taking a bet on either team to win both halves, as “YES” at odds of @1.10 presents rather good value and pretty much a guarantee return. Confidence 80%

Blues vs Reds

The 3rd match of Saturday’s round 4 triple header, sees the Blues taking on the Reds at Suncorp which we expect to be rather empty for this fixture due to te Reds poor form over several years.

Reds

We have written about the Reds downfall in many posts before, to summarise it is purely the fault of that of Reds management that they find themselves in the position they currently do.  The Reds are yet to win a match in Super Rugby 2016 after they have lost against the Force and Rebels in their previous two matches of Super Rugby 2016.

Contrary to public opinion, all statistics point towards this being a close game. There have been 20 games played between the Reds and Blues with the Reds having won 10 out of the 20, The Blues winning 9 and 1 draw.

Remarkably the average points difference per game between these two teams have only been 0.90 points per match.

Blues

The Blues despite them, dropping their previous two games, both of which they could (should) have won, have showed immense improvement under Tana Umaga.

As former, All Black superstar, Justin Marshall mentioned last week in an interview with Tana Umaga – “You can coach many things but you can’t coach patience and belief.” The latter is very true since patience on attack and genuine belief that they could have won their previous two matches, have been the primary reason the Blues lost their last 2 fixtures.

However one learns from your mistakes and there is no doubt the Blues, despite closely losing against two very good opponents in the Crusaders & Hurricanes in their previous two matches, would have learned an awful lot, and most importantly gained valuable experience from those losses.

On paper, the Blues are a far superior team to the Reds, both in the forwards & the backs but especially in the loose forwards with big name international players such as Jerome Kaino and Steven Luatua who will no doubt play a massive part in the outcome of this match.

Furthermore in the backline Blues flyhalf, Ihaia West have been improving game upon game (he only needs to improve his early goal kicking), while Rene Ranger, George Moala have been superb at the back.

Round 4 Super Rugby Predictions Blues vs Reds

Despite the team from Auckland, New Zealand playing away from home and the statistics indicating a very close game, it does not necessarily paint a very accurate picture since it does not take into consideration the improvement of the Blues this year, and the downward spiral of the Reds. Due to a far superior team, we expect the Blues to pull away at the end and win with approximately 8-points

What the Bookmakers Are Saying

All major bookmakers, including International Bookmaker BetVictor (offering some of the Best odds out there), agrees with our prediction and made the Blues, rather big favourites for this game.

Those wanting to bet on the Blues to win straight up can find them at good odds of @1.44

For punters hoping for an upset can bet on the Reds at, generous, odds of @2.87

The handicap bet has been set at +/- 5 –points.

Rugby Betting’s recommended bet Rebels vs Sunwolves:

As mentioned above the statistics are slightly misleading, The Reds are down on confidence and the Blues are a growing team, despite the Auckland Blues playing away from home we expect them to win rather comfortably. Thus, we recommend taking the Handicap bet at +/ 5-points

Those who want to make use of our small odds, high stake betting strategy can find great value betting on the Blues for a straight up win at good odds of @1.44 Blues To Win 90% confidence

Lions vs Cheetahs

We can’t see the Cheetahs attack breaking through the Lions defence, while the Lions have a solid attack themselves, which will easily penetrate the Cheetahs defence, since they (the Cheetahs are one of the worst defence sides in the tournament.

What the Bookies Are Saying

South African bookmaker, Marathonbet has the Lions as favourites at @1.20 which is really good value for a big bet.
Those thinking the Cheetahs can upset (highly unlikely) can bet on them @4.20
The best value bet comes via the handicap the line has been set at +/- 11-points. in favour of the Lines

Rugby Bettings recommended Bet

The Lions have been one of the better teams in the tournaments thus far, for the Lions to win with more than 11-points against a Cheetahs team with virtually no defence, is very possible. Lions to win with 11+ points Confidence 90%+
